On March 8, 2019, USCIS published a new version of Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant status. The previous version of this form (12/23/2016) will only be accepted through March 21, 2019. After that date, only the new (3/8/2019) version will be accepted. The new I-539 Form includes a new I-539A Supplemental Information form that must be completed and signed by each co-applicant (that is, each additional accompanying family member). Parents or guardians may sign on behalf of children under age 14 or on behalf of any co-applicant who is not mentally competent to sign. Additionally, each applicant and co-applicant, with a few exceptions (certain A, G and NATO nonimmigrants) is now required to pay an $85 biometric services fee, and will later receive an appointment notice to provide biometrics at a local Application Support Center.
